The above set was stitched by myself and photographed before I removed the water soluble stabiliser. I’d love to photograph all 10 together completely finished but unfortunately my children have walked off with some of them as they loved them so much! I think they are intending to give some to their teachers as end of term presents.
I have added in the maximum number of colour changes to give the embroiderer the maximum flexibility when stitching out the bookmarks. On many occasions it is possible to do the next and even subsequent colour without changing threads. So please don’t be alarmed when you see the number of colour changes! In some of my stitchouts above I’ve significantly reduced the number of colour changes by doing this. I want you to make these bookmarks in your individual style.
Just because I’ve used traditional Christmas colours does not mean you have to slavishly stick to them. Use colours of your choice from your stash that look good with your background fabric. If you look at the photos below (taken by Cecilia) of the bookmarks, you will see how wonderful they can look by simply changing fabrics and colours/using varigated threads – two of them were created using a layer of sparkly organza on top of the main bookmark fabric for extra effect.
They are a great way of using up small pieces of fabric from you stash as the back of the bookmarks (which are plain) can be of an entirely different fabric! This is really a project which is intended to be made as far as possible from things you already have rather than having to go out and buy particular threads or fabrics.
